Filtration, as a mechanical separation process in the field of water treatment, is used in many application areas. Solids are separated from a liquid by the use of a barrier to clean and treat the water.
All procedures, in which a mixture (medium) consisting of liquid and solids or solutes, is separated in liquid (filtrate) and substances, are summarized under the term "filtration".
Water can feature dirt, pollutants, germs and bacteria, depending on its origin. A wide range of filtration options are available to extract unwanted ingredients. Depending on the composition and quality of the raw water and the specific requirements for the filtrate, individual filter materials and the optimal filtration processes are determined.
